Sometimes, when I stepped back and hold on a for a while,
I would in fact, remember all the lil things that happened in my life,
and take the chance to re-appreciate every single event.
And it works.
It works for getting you all up energetic and encouraged for the day,
It works for letting you know that the previous bad day you had, or waking up not feeling good,
and that life's isn't that bad as you think when you are feeling at your worst moment.
It works for letting you feel that you've made life kinda fulfilling,
and that you want to make it even more fulfilling.
It works for reminding who are the important people around you,
those who keep you sane and looking forward to spending your precious time for the next decade & counting.
It works for me that I have lived 22 years and being able to experience what I never think I will,
and especially those that I worked for, putting in my 101% in it.
And in fact, letting me have to space to share here,
this blog has been one of the greatest things in all my years.
Not just a blog for leisure purposes for at least a good 5 years (oh yes, been blogging for 5 years and more.),
but a space for me to share all the happy, unfortunates, anger.. emotions,
a space that creates opportunities for me to meet great people from different levels,
a space that motivates me to learn more about what's going on around,
and see the evolvement of social media and how powerful it is,
a space that provides me to get in touch with endless knowledge through the chances, events, and people,
a space that trains me how to communicate better and develop myself,
a space that makes me think hard on reflections,
a space that has endless thankful reasons why it exists.
My blog has became my important another half of me,
a passion, something that I love, and love doing.
Not to mention, is my next best friend too.
Today is an entry on some highlights of what I've been through,
and what helped me to realise life's too short to be unfulfilled,
and to realise we need to reach for greater heights.
*
This is me in my 22nd,
a girl just like everyone else, still in my undergrad years.
I always like keeping myself very busy, or rather, working.
Always think that people should ought to try out whatever for as long as we can before priorities and commitments set in.
Though at times, I would very much like to stop and put everything at the back to have some me-time,
feeling all drained and tired.
But when thinking of what you would get, the things that you will learn when you work than being idle,
that thought surpasses the idle one, which then keeps you moving forward.
I used to work a great deal of promoter jobs ever since I stepped out of secondary school when I was 16.
Remembered that O'levels ended on October, and I started working from November onwards.
Probably not a lot of people know this,
but yup, worked for BenQ, Siemens, Motorola promoter job and went trainings for sales,
stood long straight 10 hours working at either starhub, singtel or M1 shop and promoting mobile phones to get sales,
ensuring that targets are met (of course, commissions were earned) to report back to work.
When i was 17 and working as a promoter.
Used to be kinda introvert and scared when I was young in the primary/secondary school,
and this job trained me to better open up, speak up, and to take more initiatives especially when it was a sales job.
Didn't regret spending all weekends standing there from daylight to night, with aching feet at the end of the day,
because it opened many other lil doors,
made me know so much more friends with people around my age, or with people who are already at the last phase of uni life,
and let me meet my girlfriend, Applepie.
Amidst the constant part-time promoter job which I did since then,
I did other small lil events which are more inclined to sales as well.
Enrolled into Temasek Polytechnic Business and started school in May when I was 17,
the promoter job continued and so five weekdays of school,
but the whole Saturday and Sunday would then be dedicated to the part time job from 11am to 9pm.
Gradually stopped when i was about 19, the second year of poly,
and finally stopped when I did my internship at Prudential during my course of study.
Internship at Prudential for 3 months.
And after 3 years, I graduated from TP during May 2008,
with a Diploma in Business, majoring in Marketing and Tourism.
Met angels during my poly life, and yes,
spot the familiar angels in my life now!
I would like to say that I tried keeping a balance during school life.
Participated in many schoolwide events like freshman camps for consecutive 3 years,
and started blogging at my old blog with bits and pieces of my daily life even since the start of poly.
Let me share a secret with you.
Did you know the first course I applied for during the application for polytechnic…
was actually Multimedia and Social Networks?
Hahaha, I know i might not look like that sort that sits behind doing all the programming etc,
(I mean, I am kinda literally behind the computer 24/7 everyday),
but yes It was, the application was successful by the way. :p
I attended the first week of school and decided that as much as I LOVE DESIGNING & ARTS (ok, I'll touch on this in a bit),
but I would prefer to take it as a passion/ interest than to fully go into that study, hence industry.
So I appealed to Business, and did marketing instead.
Which it was a good platform as you can explore your creativity, ideas,
and at the same time, exercise your designing and artistic skills. :p
And another best thing about having my blog is,
I can do whatever designing with the countless pictures I take whenever I go out!
Whenever i have the time,
instead of displaying my pictures one by one in the blog, I prefer to collage them in photoshop.
Through years of doing all these,
I'm quite confident to say that I'm better than an intermediate in photoshop, teehee,
not these works here, these are just some stuff i took from my old blog.
Definitely have no problems figuring out new stuff there nor understanding the functions.
Just let me know what you want, im quite sure I won't have issues figuring it out! :p
Love photoshopping the effect of photos too.
when i was taking a break from studying and when one of my projects in poly was on YAKUN.
Proud of this piece of work that I thought from scratch, for this module- Arts Appreciation.
Supposed to form something that is in between two things for a person to develop personal appreciation for arts,A
and only working with colourful papers and that was it.
What's next would probably be one of my proudest works!
I always have a thing for designing, drawing, whatever arts,
and on day my cousin (who is aware of my interests) just shoved me with a pair of PLAIN WHITE SHOES.
Just like this.
And then he gave me two pictures, the pair of shoes and a tube of black ink.
one picture was 2D, one was 3D, and he requested for me to draw them on the shoes.
Hmm, i thought that that was challenging, specially the 3D one,
but nevertheless, I gave it a shot.
Pardon for the liquid paper,
but i think i did good here drawing them on the shoes with my bare hands huh? :p
Even I myself was amazed at the end of it.
Anyway, after poly was one of the crossroads in life.
I was thinking hard if I should pursue a career with my diploma,
or further studies to a bachelor and if so, which university was I able to start my next phase in.
Therefore, I applied for the universities and in the meanwhile,
I went looking for a full time job for the long break in between,
and settled down in VOX events company as a full-timer.
Nice colleagues that i have met, and here was one of the events successfully carried out.
And fortunately, very fortunately, I was accepted by NUS Business School for a continuation of my studies,
and until now, I am very very thankful for this, and yup, i majored into finance, which I am currently pursuing.
Apart from studying,
i still think its important to explore other opportunities when there are.
So I continued taking up part time jobs and always trying to balance up the life as a student.
A recent experience.
From strangers to lovely friends, got to know Vel, Jie and Rach through the 2 half years stint at Bonitochico, now LoveBonito.
The yellow picture above is when i first started helping BC two years back.
And so blogging went pretty well, which i didn't expect to and am extremely grateful for .
During my uni life till date, I had great privileges to widen my social circle,
get to know different people from different businesses,
get to try out products, services and do reviews.
Met other friendly bloggers!
One of the highlights of blogging was to be in touch with Malaysia Airlines directly,
met up with people who flew all the way from KL down to Singapore.
Having the honour to be offered a complimentary air ticket to explore their flight and experience their services,
and have expenses paid for at the destination!
A delightful me!
And what was best is that I got to bring a friend,
and leney zhang was the lucky one to have her air ticket paid for too!
Look at how happy she was. ;p
Shortly after, another highlight of this year would this rare opportunity once again.
I was invited by the Singapore LG's PR team to participate in the LG campaign earlier this year.
It was a campaign to introduce a phone that wasn't in the local market yet,
and there was a competition ongoing which will determine 3 bloggers to be sent over to KOREA for a worldwide blogger seminar.
And so it was judged on creativity, innovation, ideas and comprehensiveness of content.
Click HERE to see the video that i filmed, somehow directed and thus, put together during the competition.
And HERE for the picturelog that i did too!
Really, really Lucky me, to have the chance to be one of the bloggers,
and Weeeeeeeeee! I was sent over to KOREA for 4 days, with all expenses paid for,
with the privilege of getting together with bloggers from all over the world, France, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, Russia etc,
and attended the 2010 LG Global Blogger Workshop.
off we went.
The Singapore's representatives with Chang Moon, LG's Korea boss.
Me freezing..
At LG headquarters.
A toast from the Korea Boss.
An honour.
That's the cute LG PR Manager from Sweden sitting beside me btw. :p
Not just play, but we have work to do.
We had to get together in teams, with members from each country in each team,
and we had a half day group discussion to brainstorm ideas for another round of competition there.
And have another half day of presentation to the board and the whole group.
Guess what, out of 5 teams, WE WON!!
By having the most innovative and creative idea, YAY!
We had AMAZING RACE around Seoul, and this was my team.
School started when i came back from Korea,
and this was the last year of my undergraduate.
Decided to do an internship during the summer holidays in regards to my course of study- Finance,
and had an extremely fulfilling internship till July this year at a Swiss Bank.
Me at work!
My Mentor Ana.
My Hot-mama Colleague, Norizan,
who made this collage with her son for me to give me as a farewell gift on my last day.
Awww, really sweet and I miss them!
Other colleagues who are angels to me during my internship. Marian and Yizheng.
Ryan
Overlooking MBS during the 3 months was a splendid relaxing thing to do when taking short breaks.
The team that I was in <3
Fulfilling because I get to experience and see another part of work.
Great and awesome time, especially with the other intern, Felix from Germany.
And great times cuz i met a lot more other interns from all the universities, as well as other functions in the company,
like Deborah from HR, whom kept the interns united.
So, im back to school now, and am having the last few weeks of the semester.
Extreme hectic and stressed up period now,
but nonetheless, I bet we are all trained well from the numerous years of studies etc to tide us through this sem smoothly.
You have just read and got to know a part of my life,
and also, got to know me even better now.
There're a lot more to share, but for now, these will do the talking.
Hope you enjoyed the entry about yours truly.
P.S: I'm thinking of joining the Standard Chartered World's Coolest Intern , What do you think?
